At the school Kotoko Aihara (CV: Nana Mizuki) attends, the classes are based on the exam scores of the individual, so the students in class A are those with best scores (the smartest) and the ones in F are the ones with the worst (the stupidest). Kotoko has since she entered high school been in love with Naoki Irie (CV: Daisuke Hirakawa) the top student of her year and one day she decides to confess her love and is miserably rejected. What’s worse is that her house is destroyed and she and her father, Shigeo (CV: Bin Shimada), moves in with a friend of the father… And that’s the Irie family’s home! Now Kotoko has to live with the person who rejected her love while still having feelings for him.
Not really a bad romance anime targeted towards girl, even if the plot is pretty typical. The best part is that while most shows stops when they become a couple or when they start living “happily ever after”, the story keeps going as more of a slice of life show with pregnancy, marriage and what not. It spans over several years, in other words.
But…
AT THE END THEY HAVE A KID AND ARE MARRIED SO WHY DOES SHE KEEP CALLING HIM “IRIE-KUN”?. I wouldn’t call my HUSBAND by his last name. EVER.
But overall, it’s not great. It’s fine at best. I don’t particularly like it. Well, I’m not a fan of the girly romance animes (Kimi ni Todoke being the only show I love to death), so I’m prolly biased, and I also though it sometimes was hard to follow the sense of time and at times it felt slow.

You are not really biased. This show was a very tasteless show like the manga Hot Gimmick. It had two polar opposites which is almost like a dichotomy of Blake’s poetry collection only it’s stupidity and obnoxiousness. Irie is such a horrible person I think even Light Yagami is better than him and this girl is such a pain in the behind and when she once gets genuinely angry and then come back the kisses missed or what not I cringed thinking of such a sexual relationship which is really so stupid. The guy is only academically smart he makes no original statements. The only tender moment is when he is deciding his career path and she hugs him from behind and realizes he may not be hugging her but is soothing to her touch and the operation parts of the show with that kid’s kidneys. All the other things were like urghhh. (also Irie’s parents are badly drawn and his little bro is a jerk too). I feel bad for Nana Mizuki for voicing such a stupid character I love her voicing Alois Trancy from Kuroshitsuji II any day.

The relationship they had is, in my opinion, one you see a lot and not just in anime and manga, but in films, TV shows, books… But I try not to judge the relationship too much, because although the guy was a jerk a lot of the time on screen, I have no clue how much love he showed off screen. I try to be nice and imagine them having a pretty good married life, at least.
But I certainly do agree that the polar opposite of Kotoko and Naoki didn’t make good chemistry and it did get obnoxious.
Comparing Naoki with Light is really unfair though. Light is a complex character which is indeed well-made and you can dislike him for many reasons while Naoki is pretty blah in general. I don’t think it’s so much that Naoki is a bad person as it is that his character lacks personality. It’s like the only thing he got was being good at studying and everything else was secondary, even his love for Kotoko. Naoki needed to be fleshed out and I’m certain the entire show could have been better. Kotoko was much more balanced as a character, although she wasn’t perfect either.

Exactly. I mean that as they both academic people. Yeah they are caricatures of people not good characters.Yes the show could be better 🙂

That was very nice the “on-screen” part that was certainly a dimension I didn’t consider probably because shows like this are always involved showing things to audiences if not characters.

I think it’s hard to remember the show spans over years, so what we see is just a tiny portion of their life together. With that in mind, it feels like a lot of their relationship was actually lost in between the things we got to see.

Good point but I was happy when she at one point gwts nad at him. I think shd bdcoming a nurse was the best part of the show

I agree that becoming a nurse was a very good aspect of the show.

That was the best personal evolution. If it focused on that than the miscalculated romance we would have an awesoms show. Have you seen paradise kiss.

I really hate this show. It’s just some weird garbage that I skimmed through. The guy character is so lifeless and so unoriginal I actually hate him more than Light Yagami from Death Note and that’s abig thing. The girl is an annoying piece of shit. But I respect the mangaka and hate that she died by hitting her head I think when she was moving in somewhere as her husband reported. I give Anny blog kudos for toleratingly watching it.
