Batch #6

It’s been a while since my last batch post, but allow me to briefly share my thoughts on a few shows I’ve watched recently (or not so recently but never finished the posts for). There will be another batch soon, because I didn’t want this post to be too long and I’ve binged a lot of shows while I was pregnant and during the past year and I’d like to share my thoughts on at least a portion of them. Next month will be a game review, but I think there’ll be another batch post the month after that.

Joker Game
In Japan a school for spies was created in 1937, and we get to see individual stories related to this agency of spies, called D-Agency.

Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~

Who am I?

What am I?

Where did I come from?

Where am I going?

Needed by no one.
If my existence
holds no meaning,
then why am I here?

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

102691lKousei Arima (CV: Natsuki Hanae) used to play the piano, but after his mother died he lost the ability to hear himself play and he stopped. One day he is asked to go as Friend A with his friends Tsubaki Sawabe (CV: Ayane Sakura) and Ryouta Watari (CV: Ryouta Oosaka) and the fellow classmate of Tsubaki and young violinist Kaori Miyazono (CV: Risa Taneda). The young violinist start to violently and forcefully changing Kousei’s life after their meeting, and little by little Kousei is forced to deal with all his past demons and the ghost of his mother.

67177lThis is a story by Naoshi Arakawa that really wants to tell you something and the original comic is well made although I saw a few issues in the art once in a while. The pacing was messed up in the anime as they too religiously followed the original work, but it doesn’t change the beauty of this work. The story ends in my favourite way – bittersweet – and the general theme here is classical music. A question it rises for a fellow classical musician, as myself, is “Should you play as you wish, or follow the score to every point?” Another question that would go for everyone is “Are you ever ready to give up?” Continue reading “Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso”

Strike the Blood

56163lThe legend says that the strongest vampire is the Fourth Progenitor, but it’s just a legend, because there is only three progenitors. For his entire life, Kojou Akatsuki (CV: Yoshimasa Hosoya) has been your average male student, nothing more and nothing less. But one day the Fourth Progenitor sent her spirit into Kojou and he’s now the one of legends. Keeping it secret isn’t an easy feat as his eyes turns red when he gets urges for blood, but he can’t let anyone know he became a vampire either. Noragami

From now on I will write out scores for the shows I’ve watched. For anime these scores will include Story, Characters, Animation, Music, Total and Average. I’m, for now, using a 0-5 system. 5, is awesome, 4 is good, 3 is neutral, 2 is bad, 1 is horrible, 0 means I can’t score it. Scores and what I score might change over time.

58139lHiyori Iki (CV: Maaya Uchida) is your everyday girl, who loves watching wrestling. One day as she and her friends are going from school, she sees a guy running in front of a lorry. She jumps out to save him, but in front of the lorry, her soul is separated from her body and although she’s unsure how reliable the guy is, she has to ask him – the god Yato (CV: Hiroshi Kamiya) – to help her with her problem. But Yato isn’t fulfilling her wish although she did pay him 5 yen and while she’s waiting for her wish to be fulfilled she learns how the world of the gods work and befriends Yato and his regalia Yukine (CV: Yuuki Kaji).

Batch #5

Batch posts are posts where I write early impressions on shows I end up dropping or about OVAs, which I can’t write a lot about.

54783lNatsume Yuujinchou: Itsuka Yuki no Hi ni

Takashi Natsume (CV: Hiroshi Kamiya) is able to see demons. One snowy day he sees a demon who is searching for something, but doesn’t know what it’s searching for. Takashi tries to help it, but it’s hard when all he knows it’s something nostalgic, new, sparkling and warm. When the demon finds it, it became a flower and disappeared.

It’s typical to Natsume Yuujinchou and filled me with emotions – as the show always done. I loved this little OVA and when I watched it earlier this spring, it was really fitting. All in all, it’s a lovely OVA which captures the essence of the entire show, music, pacing, story and feelings included. I should write about NatsuYuu in the future.

Kono Danshi series

Kono Danshi series is a series of stand-alone episodes. Rather than writing about one at the time, I figured I should write about both. Be warned though, this post is full of spoilers. But first some general information.

Kono Danshi series is very artistic in a sense of style. It uses the art to show feelings complemented by great voice acting and some musical pieces. Both of the episodes are boys love… kind of. If you watch these, you’ll know what I mean. I guess reading the summaries of the entire episodes could work too.

One again, be warned. Tons of spoilers after the cut! Continue reading “Kono Danshi series”
