Disclaimers

The Anny Blog is and has always been a space where I, Anny, can express my thoughts and opinions on fiction. Over the years I have expanded my content and this site is in its current form dedicated to exploring a variety of content, including storytelling, media and art. It does so through reviews, literary analyses, opinion pieces and original content.

The opinions, works, and discussions shared here may delve into subjects that some readers might find challenging or uncomfortable. This includes, but is not limited to, complex relationship dynamics, age gaps, mental and physical health issues, LGBTQ+ issues, and human rights topics. The views I express and the conclusions I reach may not always align with all readers’ personal values and tastes, and may be subject to change in due time.

And this is okay.

Creative Expression and Fiction

I firmly believe in the importance of creative expression and the freedom to safely explore a wide range of ideas and situations through fiction. Fiction allows us to navigate difficult or taboo subjects, explore fantasies, and engage in escapism—vital aspects of storytelling and mental health. Fiction also fosters empathy by allowing us to experience life through different perspectives.

It is essential for readers of The Anny Blog to understand that fiction does not necessarily reflect real-life ideals, nor does it inherently endorse toxic or dangerous behaviors. I do not endorse abusive relationships, violence, or harm toward anyone. Fiction should be a safe space for both creators and consumers to explore various subjects at their own comfort level and at their own discretion.

Media Literacy

I advocate for media literacy and encourage all readers to approach the content on The Anny Blog with an open mind and a critical eye. Critical assessment of fiction, along with the ability to understand context and characters, is crucial to media literacy. It’s important to distinguish between an author’s voice and opinions and a character’s voice and reality within a story.

Not every piece of media will resonate with us, and sometimes it may even make us uncomfortable. But that discomfort is valuable. Experiencing a wide range of media helps us become more empathetic and better understand one another. While fiction can reflect the real world, it should not be confused with reality.

In my reviews, I strive to approach content with the same critical eye and open mind that I encourage in my readers. Consuming fiction requires reading between the lines and understanding the unsaid, which might not always be evident on the surface.

Discussion

I welcome critical discussions of both my own work and the work I review, and I value hearing diverse opinions. However, sensitive topics should be discussed respectfully. If I find a comment to be rude, overly negative, or disparaging, I will not approve or will remove it from The Anny Blog. If you wish to engage in negative discussions, please do so outside of my platform. I believe in the right to free speech, but I also believe in the responsibility that comes with sharing opinions. This applies to both me and the readers.

Content Notices and Warnings

I may include content notices in my reviews if a topic could be particularly upsetting, especially in the “Thoughts” section. However, I may not always provide such notices in advance, depending on the relevance and depth of the discussion. If a book or series is mature, I will often explicitly note this, however, especially if my personal opinion disagrees with official ratings.

For my original stories shared on this site, I may provide a list of potentially sensitive subjects on a story’s page. To benefit readers who prefer not to see spoilers, the content warnings are toggled closed by default. If content warnings are present, they are located after the quick information section and before the summary. For some stories the content warnings are preceded by a Reader’s Discretion Advised disclaimer, which means this is a story which deals with some very heavy topics in-depth.

While I strive to be thorough, I cannot take responsibility for a reader choosing not to view the content warnings, nor for anything accidentally omitted or not explicitly listed. I will do my best to highlight relevant content, but the decision is ultimately mine, based on the context of each story.

Parental Guidance

If your child (under 18) is a reader of The Anny Blog, please keep the following in mind:

  1. Responsibility: All of the above applies to your child. It is your responsibility to ensure your child knows internet safety, has the maturity, and possesses the appropriate level of media literacy to engage with the content on The Anny Blog.
  2. Content Levels: I strive to keep the reviews at a PG-13, Teens, or PEGI 12 level in terms of writing and visual content. However, much of the content I review is geared toward older audiences, particularly Older Teens (ages 16-19) or New Adults (ages 18-25), though I also review content for younger children.
  3. Story Content: My stories are often suitable for Teens (ages 13-15) or Older Teens. Some chapters in more mature stories may be password-protected if I believe the content warrants it, based on what I would feel comfortable allowing my own children to consume and considering general ratings and demographics. Access to such content is based on trust, and I do not take responsibility if your child provides inaccurate information about their age. I am also open to inquiries of each story’s potential age rating, but using the age of the main characters is a good guideline.
  4. Artistic Nudity: Any nudity in the art section is for artistic purposes only. There is nothing inherently sexual about the human body, and I have no intention of objectifying it. People exist in all forms, clothed or not, and this is reflected in any content available on The Anny Blog.
  5. Sexual Content: There is no graphic sexual content in any work available on The Anny Blog. Sexual activities may be alluded to in stories if relevant to the narrative, and sex and sexuality may be discussed as these are important topics. However, explicit sexual activities are not depicted in my stories or any available artwork.

If these terms are unacceptable, I recommend installing a site blocker to restrict access. If your child is a legal adult, I encourage you to allow them to make their own choices and form their own opinions.
