Aurora is a princess in Austria and in 1895 she falls asleep only to wake up in a magical country called Lemuria. There she meets Igniculus and together they have to recover the sun, the moon and the stars which were stolen by the Dark Queen, Umbra. During their journey they get more allies, who all trust the princess, but in reality Aurora just wants to reunite with her ill father in Austria.
First off: SPIDER WARNING ON THIS GAME. They should really put a label for that on everything. Or maybe that’s just my phobia of arachnids talking.
Regardless of the spiders, I did buy the Deluxe Edition for Playstation 3/Playstation 4 of this for the Amano Yoshitaka poster that it came with, while the rest of the goodies were of less interest to me when I made the purchase. I’m a huge Amano fan, which perhaps isn’t too difficult to guess considering what I just said…
That said, let’s get to what I have to say about this game now!
Thoughts
While I think the poster absolutely was worth the purchase, that can’t be said about the other goodies. The supposed “art book” is no more than a small pamphlet, really. And putting the game and the two additional add ons that came with my edition, I feel like what I mostly paid for was an Igniculus key chair which lit up, and I was not happy about that. Sure, the key chain was cute, but the batteries dies after a few hours since it couldn’t be turned off, and it later also broke fairly quickly even without rough handling.
The music, by Béatrice Martin (also known as Cœur de pirate), is in general the main theme with variations, but there are a few different tracks outside the main theme and it was over all decent. While I liked the art, and it felt unique compared to the media I usually consume, I wasn’t fond of how the human characters (older-Aurora, Nox, Queen Umbra, etc) could have some 3D animations, while the most of the game was entirely in 2D. What I liked the most was that the entire game was a story on rhyme, although it at times was feel a bit as if it was grasping at straws in some of them.
The gameplay is relatively short and not particularly hard, although all the startdusts and chests can be difficult to locate. That’s not necessarily a flaw in any way, just something worth of note. I enjoyed the battle system in the game and playing it was definitely worth my time. Overall cute and enjoyable, despite the spiders.
